WW, from Shero Series, 2012, acrylic on canvas, 10″ x 20″

Ohhh, to be Wonder Woman!  A warrior princess gifted with superhuman powers!  And oh how cool would it be to have a Lasso of Truth, a pair of indestructible bracelets, a cool tiara (which could serve as a projectile when needed) and of course who wouldn’t want her very own invisible airplane???  Not to mention the PERFECT body and never having to suffer through a bad hair day!  But alas, we mere mortal woman can only dream of such things.  We’re happy if we can manage to get the kids to school on time, accomplish a quarter of the things on our to do list each day and fit into our favorite pair of jeans – well at least I’M happy that way, guess I can’t speak for all women.  I just wish somedays I could do more.  Be more, take in more, not screw up so many things.  Why do I feel so inadequate most of the time?  And if almost ALL the other women I know struggle with the same feelings…then WHO are we comparing ourselves to……Wonder Woman???

  1. That a great point about who we are comparing ourselves to! That is SO frustrating! I also like how the Mulan and the Wonder Woman paintings relate to each other in the sense that most of the woman I know try so hard to be wonder woman all the while hiding who they truly are. Mulan tried to be the “perfect” Chinese woman who could do and say everything that the perfect woman would with grace and ease but once she embraced who she was internally, she was able to soar with success. In our society, the perfect woman is wonder woman but if we all let go of those ideal expectations and embraced who we are as individuals – we will soar!
Thank you for that new perspective of woman and the shero.

    • Thanks, I’m glad you like it, she makes me smile. I have her on my wall right now….but I will be moving at the end of January and could probably part with her at that time 🙂
